2016 Sensis Social Media Report

The Sensis Social Media Report for 2016 was published last week, to much relief from Social Media and Community Managers around Australia. This report is an annual survey of 800 consumers, 1,000 small & midsize businesses and 100 large businesses on how they use social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter in Australia, and there are some hugely useful learnings from this year’s report. Here are my highlights from the report…

What Keeps Me Creative

Often, I’m full of inspiration. Positively brimming with ideas and bursts of creative genius! But sometimes, just sometimes, it can be hard to rustle up the enthusiasm required to create a piece of content, or think of a tagline, or design an inspiring image. That’s where my creative touchstones come into play – those things I do, places I go to, sites I visit that help me get my creative groove back on. And here they are…

How I Stay Productive

I work from home every day (often including the weekend, which I know is not healthy, but sometimes needs must!) and I can honestly say I love it. Working from home is not for everyone – some people need a boss to tell them what to do, or co-workers to throw ideas around with and chat to, and that’s a lot of fun. But here’s the thing for me: I get so much more work done when I don’t have colleagues sitting next to me. In previous roles the social element of work was fantastic, but it also eats into your actual productive work time. Here at home, the only distractions are housework and cooking. Not as exciting as a half an hour gossip session about someone else’s debauched weekend.

Setting SMART goals

Most people will have heard of SMART goals: in order to have the best chance of succeeding, goals need to be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-based.

Which is nice in theory, but can often be quite hard in reality. You may know that you want to increase your Facebook likes by the end of the financial year, but how much is a realistic level of growth to aim for?
